They also have great tools available on the site. I scored a great pair of Bahco Pruners that look and feel like they will easily outlast my time on earth.

And they will, too, with proper maintenance. Boiled linseed oil party!

DeleteHey Robert, I heard about your EHP from Diana and am happy to know you are making Elgin great again :) I live in Denver but Elgin is my home town. My nostalgia for Elgin "crops" up with your hops. So I want to hear more. Do you live there? Is the project at your home? Where is that exactly? Best wishes! Ivy is adorable.
ReplyDeleteHa, that was great. Yes, I live in Elgin with my lovely wife and daughter. The project is in my backyard around the area of Larkin HS. We has such a wide open grass lawn back there that I thought it was a waste not to utilize it for something more productive. I will be posting more about my goals for the project, but in a nutshell, I want to show that a traditionally "high maintenance" or "high-input" crop such as hops can be grown with less labor, infrastructure, machinery, and without any chemicals, fertilizers, or irrigation while also yielding a superior product, preventing soil erosion, and breaking atmospheric C02 and binding carbon back into the soil. It's already being done on some small farms for high-yielding corn which requires more nutrients than hops, so i figure it would work just as well. Plus, craft brewing is so popular right now, I figure word about better farming practices would spread quickly if there is something new and environmentally friendly hitting the market. Thanks for your comment! Have a great day! I like positive exclamations points!
Deletep.s....you won't want to publish the address so leave that location question go... happy growing:)
ReplyDeleteThe address link pulls up a spot nowhere near my home, I would say that I did this on purpose if I had a more fragile ego, but right now I am still struggling with questions like "what is a google plus?" and "what is the difference between a link and a HYPERlink". So, just a happy coincidence, but thank you for the heads-up just the same.
DeleteLOL "what is a google plus"
